DiversoLab participation in MODEVAR 2026

Events, Projects, Uncategorized
Yesterday, April 29, 2026, our team from the University of Seville presented its work in the International Workshop on Languages for Modelling Variability (MODEVAR 2026). The event, hosted online by TU Braunschweig (Germany), brought together international experts to discuss and advance the field of software variability representation. Feature models have been recognized as one of the main contributions to the Software Product Line community since their invention in 1990. Despite several attempts to establish a standard modelling language (such as OVM, CVL, or TVL), reaching a consensus on a simple and universal feature modelling language remains a challenge. With the goal of facilitating information sharing among researchers, tools, and developers, this year's edition of MODEVAR focused on sharing knowledge about building variability representations and, most importantly, fostering open discussions on…

New Seminar on SPL and Machine Learning!

Events, Product lines
We recently had the honour of hosting a seminar by Rennes University Professor Paul Temple, on the integration of Machine Learning and SPL (Software Product Lines) where he talked about previous and future investigation, as well as sharing the results of his most recent research on the topic. We were introduced to the Variability Systems expert lab on Rennes University, DiverSE. Among their most valuable contributions, is extensive research on feature model (main tool for creating a domain or scope for a variability system) automation and constraints creation for them. The event was introduced by Valére, an international student that we had the pleasure to collaborate with on his stay on Seville (Picture 1), and followed by Professor Paul Temple (Picture 2). We will surely be featuring more high quality…

DiversoLab Seminars: Innovation in IT

Events, Seminar
We're back with the seminars, and this week we bring you a seminar led by our colleague and professor Francisco José Dominguez. As always, we'll be gathering this Thursday, the 16th 10:30, in room A2.11 open to everyone and will last 30-45 minutes as usual. Below, we provide an introduction to this week's seminar: When facing a software project, one of the most relevant challenges is the uncertainty that the vast majority of these projects entail, especially concerning business (what should we build) and technology (how should we build it). The challenge escalates when dealing with an R&D project where the goal is to obtain IT innovation that allows gaining a competitive advantage. Software projects (or operations) can be of different natures, but we don't always consider what the most…

A New Seminar on “UVLHub and Open Science”

Events, Seminar
This week, on Thursday 21st, we start off with the second seminar of the calendar, which is called "UVLHub and Open Science" and led by our colleague and professor David Romero. Open Science is a current trend that allows open access to scientific results, but how does that translate into practice? In the field of software product lines, feature models are crucial for managing variabilities and similarities in product development, facilitating tasks such as product configuration and testing. Despite their importance, access to these models is restricted, as many are in private repositories or discontinued projects. To overcome these limitations, David Romero's doctoral thesis introduces the Universal Variability Language (UVL), which aims to standardize how these models are serialized, regardless of the tools used. However, current solutions for sharing models…
