DiversoLab continues exploring how software variability can support smarter and more adaptable agricultural systems.
At SISTEDES 2026, our colleague Francisco Sebastián Benítez presented the work titled “Herramienta – A Tool for Variability Management in Irrigation and Agriculture”. The conference took place in Alicante from 16 to 18 June 2026 and gathered researchers and professionals from the Spanish software engineering and software development technologies community.

A tool-oriented contribution for smart agriculture
The presented work focuses on the development of a tool for managing variability in irrigation and agricultural contexts. By applying variability management techniques, the tool aims to support the systematic configuration and adaptation of irrigation-related solutions. This connects with DiversoLab’s broader work on software product lines, feature modelling and configurable systems.
Bridging research and practical decision-making
The presentation highlighted how software engineering can provide practical support for agriculture by making complex systems easier to configure, analyse and evolve. In this context, variability management is not only a technical concern; it is also a way to help agricultural technologies adapt to different field conditions and decision-making needs.
For DiversoLab, this contribution strengthens the bridge between core software engineering research and applied domains such as smart agriculture, where flexible and robust tools are essential.
