From Data to Irrigation: SensOlive’s Tools for Optimizing Deficit Irrigation

The foundation of irrigation scheduling in SensOlive (PLSQ_00162).

Project funded by the Junta de Andalucía.

What we measure and how: the tools and indicators we use for our objectives

In our first installment, we took you on a visit to La Hampa. Today we get a little closer to show you the tools we work with and the factors we take into account to understand, day by day, what the olive grove needs. Optimizing deficit irrigation isn’t just about watering less: it’s about watering with a purpose, and to do that we need to know precisely how each tree responds. In this video we show you the continuous measurement indicators we rely on, along with other measures we use to verify them. Along the way you’ll see:

  • How trunk diameter variation is measured in olive groves and how it can be used to schedule irrigation
  • The main indicators from daily dendrometry curves
  • The measures we use to validate results and suggest sustainable water stress levels

All of this information is the raw material for SensOlive: the foundation that truly gives IoT (Internet of Things) and Artificial Intelligence the capacity to generate smart irrigation based on the farmer’s needs and water availability. Hit play to discover how we do it.
